Extinction

Oncilla (Leopardus tigrinus)

VULNERABLE

Main threats: Habitat loss, Poaching

Oncillas are one of the smallest, little known and probably the most threatened small cat of the neotropics, and are rare everywhere they occur. In Suriname, they have thus far proven exceptionally rare in all areas studied so far. This makes them vulnerable to extirpation by different causes such as habitat loss, poaching and diseases. Because so little is known about them, adequate conservation planning is difficult.

Do you wish to help in gathering invaluable knowledge on this little known cat and fight against drivers of extiction like poaching and habitat loss? Please give us a donation.

NeoWild does research to gather knowledge on this species and tackles the broader issue of poaching and habitat loss through community outreach, awareness campaigns and incorporation of new processes for conservation.
